The five names

The Five Elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. They are better understood as movements of qi than as literal substances. Wood grows, Fire expresses, Earth stabilizes, Metal refines, and Water stores, listens, and adapts.

One element is not your whole personality

A single element can be a useful doorway, but it should not become a cage. A person, project, relationship, or season can contain several elemental movements at once. The question is which movement is strong now and which movement needs care.

Birth year vs birth date

Some calculators use only the birth year and connect it with the Chinese zodiac. A BaZi-inspired approach looks more carefully at birth date, and sometimes birth time, because month and day can change the elemental picture.

How to use the answer

If your result names Wood, ask where life wants direction. If it names Fire, ask where expression needs warmth and timing. If it names Earth, ask what needs steadiness. If it names Metal, ask what needs clearer boundaries. If it names Water, ask what needs rest and depth.
